Living in Ohio, the fall season is a mixture of steaming hot days and chilly nights.
You never know what you’re going to get in the first 3 weeks of October so while other dog owners are baking up homemade pumpkin dog treats in the oven, I’m over here making homemade dog ice cream in every attempt to keep the Newfies cool and comfortable as they wait for the snow to start flying.
Pumpkin dog ice cream is one of my favorite fall dog treats to make because not only do I not have to turn the oven on but these festival-frozen pumpkin dog treats only take me a few minutes to make and they only continue 3 simple ingredients that I always have in the cupboard.
Homemade Dog Ice Cream
I like this dog-friendly ice cream because it’s different than the normal frozen dog treats that I usually make because it’s softer and creamier.
The texture makes it perfect for a soft dog treat on a warm day and it’s also a good option for senior dogs or puppies.
This homemade pumpkin dog ice cream recipe contains all the ingredients that my dogs love combined into one cool and smooth treat.
You can make this fun ice cream recipe few different ways for your dog:
- In cute silicone molds
- In plastic cups
- In a small bowl
- Ice cube trays
If I make pumpkin ice cream in bowls I’ll usually top it off with a dog treat to make it extra special, otherwise, I just pour the mixture into some molds and freeze them.
Today I opted to put the pumpkin ice cream mixture in heart-shaped silicone molds and paws prints and of course, I let the dogs like the bowl:)

Why I Love This Dog Ice Cream Recipe
All 3 of my dogs love ice cream but the ice cream I eat isn’t always safe for them because it contains a lot of sugar and ingredients that might upset their stomach.
Store-bought dog ice cream is expensive so this is why cheaper for me to make plus I know what’s going in it.
I can eat this pumpkin ice cream too!
Seriously, I like all of the ingredients this creamy dog treat recipe calls for so why not?
Is Homemade Pumpkin Ice Cream Safe For Dogs?
This pumpkin ice cream is safe for my dogs.
All dogs are different and some dogs can’t tolerate daily or they’re allergic to peanut butter.
